My C-Section Birth Story
Having a c-section birth was the necessary choice due to a high risk pregnancy. But, I still had a beautiful birth & postpartum experience!
Pelvic health physiotherapy · Kitchener-Waterloo
Hi, I'm Laura, a pelvic health physiotherapist in Kitchener-Waterloo and a proud IVF and c-section mom. Pelvic floor concerns are often brushed off as "normal." They may be common, but that doesn't mean you have to live with them.

Pelvic health physiotherapy looks at much more than the pelvic floor. We may also look at your low back, hips, abdomen, breathing and movement. Here are some of the common concerns I can help with:
Pelvic pain can show up in many different ways and have a real impact on your quality of life. I help with pregnancy-related pelvic girdle pain, vaginismus, vulvodynia, painful sex, painful periods, tailbone pain, and pain related to PCOS and endometriosis.
Pelvic physiotherapy can be helpful during pregnancy, even if you aren't having symptoms. We can work on managing pain, preparing for labour and delivery, and learning perineal massage.
There is often so much focus on the baby after birth, but moms, you are important too. I can help with returning to intercourse, perineal and c-section scars, prolapse, incontinence, diastasis recti and more.
Bowels are the cornerstone of pelvic health. Concerns such as constipation, bloating, trapped gas, hemorrhoids and fecal incontinence are very common, but you don't have to suffer in silence.
Pelvic organ prolapse can sound and feel scary, but there are many ways to manage it. A prolapse does not necessarily mean giving up the exercise and activities you enjoy.
Do you leak when you laugh, cough, sneeze or exercise? Incontinence is common, but you don't have to accept it as normal. Pelvic physiotherapy can help.
Your first visit
Every patient is different, so there is no one-size-fits-all appointment. Here is a general idea of what you can expect.
First, I want to hear your whole story. We'll talk about what brought you in, why you're seeking help now and what matters most to you. No detail is too small or too silly to discuss.
We look at so much more than the pelvis, including your back, hips, abdomen, trunk muscles, posture and breathing. I may recommend an internal pelvic floor examination, but it is never mandatory.
Your plan is patient-centred and focused on your goals. I'll give my professional recommendations, but you always have the final say in how we proceed.
Progress is not always a straight line, and that's okay. I'll be here to support you, answer your questions and adjust the plan as we go.
Welcome
My own pelvic health journey started long before my physiotherapy career. I had painful periods as a teenager, pelvic pain in university, and more recently, a high-risk IVF pregnancy and c-section birth. I understand how isolating it can feel when your concerns are dismissed.
That's why nothing is TMI here. My goal is to change women's health one pelvis at a time, and I would be honoured to be part of your journey.
